Usu. on Mondays, I'd get a call from radar: "fast-movers". I'd run out on the catwalk in time to feel the pressure wave from the fighters 'strafing' our runway and the anti-aircraft missile battery, coming in from the southwest at just below supersonic. Wow! Occasionally they would be French or British aircraft, but usu. they were F-16s or F-15s. Amazing machines and skilled pilots. Sure, they are outfitted with multifarious devices that kill innocents, most recently contributing to the death toll of ~.5M Iraqis. But we also find that Darth Cheney and his puppets may have been <a href="http://thinkprogress.org/2008/07/31/cheney-proposal-for-iran-war/" rel="nofollow">dreaming and scheming</a> of ways to provoke war. If we didn't have evil f*cks who needed wargasms to justify their hate (and a fraction of the populace who supports this, and another fraction who will send their children into this maelstrom), we wouldn't outfit these machines with weapons. There are much more "technologically advanced killing devices" out there. These killing devices are thirty years old (but still cool). I fully accept the tension between my visceral and intellectual Blue Angels responses. And when they create two-mile-wide smoke drawings across the clear blue sky I enjoy my city even more.
