i like how the entire jury said that weber thompson's project was hideous, but they like the way it performed (or was meant to)

of course, that won't keep ol' blaine from stifling dissent!

Depends on the city - certainly in the UK, most rowhouses were built in very large groups by a single developer. I think that is less the case in the Antipodes and the US but simply by virtue of design (shared walls and all), they would have to be built more than one at a time!

"It’s kind of weird reading “an infill lot that’s only 37 feet wide.” In a rowhouse city, 37 feet is a very wide lot."

Were most rowhouses built one at a time, or in multiples on large parcels?

Weight of soil was considered in the bumpercrop proposal. The system is supposed to be hydroponic.

Chuck Nelson has similar thoughts on shopping malls, wrt being transformed to residential. I like the idea, as those seeking community will self-sort to those locations, and those who don't need community all the time can have their existing single-fam detached. Strip malls can be transformed to res as well.

I like the bumper crop idea, but the weight of soil required for adequate rooting volume is problematic - way more than autos, esp when wet. Much engineering required, which makes the whole vertical cropping thing a non-starter in my view.

I can tell you that the second project down you have listed here (bumper crop) won a citation award! ...more to come.

You did miss something: Hiawatha Artists Lofts is affordable housing, and for 50-60% of AMI, unlike Borealis which is 80% AMI (I can argue a long time about publicly funded 80% AMI projects; I think they are BS)

But affordability didn't sway David Baker: Hiawatha did not get the famous "Sunday night short-list call".
