Bush was merely the point man for BushCo klepto-capitalism. The men behind the curtain pulled the levers, including the 'wedge politics' and 'culture wars' levers.

JDF, I wasn't trying to say that liberal urban America is the only real America. Just reacting to how for years the right wing spinsters have pushed their bogus myth of "real America" e.g. JesseJB's comment.

JOH, prop 8 is a temporary setback. We all know the direction things have been moving, and will continue to move in the long term. No, Bush didn't invent intolerance. But he stoked it relentlessly to get elected and to push his political agenda.

"For the past eight years, people in the real America have been crushed with the reality of our country’s spitefully intolerant and disastrously incompetent leadership. And on election night, these real Americans experienced a cathartic release at the prospect of change."

Yeah. I guess that would explain how prop 8 passed in an ultra liberal state.
Oops, I forgot. Intolerance? Its all Bush's fault.

I would love to agree, but I've lived in the rural South as well as Portland and Seattle, so I know that good or bad both are the Real America. As Larry Lessig said about Prop 8: Let us spend a year talking to people who disagree with us. Let us win this battle by persuading the other side."
