I'm so glad to have found your web page. My pal mentioned it to me before, yet never got around to checking it out until now. I must express, I'm floored. I really enjoyed reading through your posts and will absolutely be back to get more.

Just because it says LEED, doesn't mean it makes sense for our climate. You have to compare the return-on-investment (ROI) for any energy saving/producing project.

The amount of exterior wall space is the real indicator for energy use. A duplex or a row house format would be much greener than a bunch of cottages with quaint little bumpouts all over.

I live one block from the Ashworth Cottages. I walk my dog by the units daily.

I've watched the prices. I bought my house (2100 sq ft, built in 1927) in 2001 for $325k. I cannot believe what they're asking for those places.

Yes, it's admirable what they've done to save energy. Yes, the fit & finish appears to be as good as you'll find in modern developments. Yes, it's a good location, and the property has (thus far) been kept up nicely.

But the prices are simply absurd. For all of the glorious intent, the Cottages are another example of extreme developer greed. I feel bad for the single family I see living there, with the communal courtyard desolate at all times.

They should be selling for under $500k, and realistically more like $350k. It's a great spot, and they're great homes, but asking folks to look around at the classic homes in the neighborhood and to pay 2x the cost for 1/2 the home is pretty tough to swallow.

Good GOD could we use a grocery store.

"(I suspect that that style was a prerequisite to keep the neighborhood from freaking out.)"

Yeah...but it took three years of negotiation with DPD and the neighborhoods to rezone the six SF parcels to allow the cottages to be built. Three YEARS. How much did that add to the cost of each unit? I hear the previous non-conformaing use on the site was an abandoned limousine repair shop. And Pryde Johnson had to spend three years to get permission to tear it down and build well-made and designed, all-green homes. Ridiculous.
